NaCCA Commences Review of KG–Primary Six Curriculum

Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has commenced a structured and comprehensive review of the Kindergarten to Primary Six curriculum, which was first introduced in the 2019/2020 academic year as part of broader reforms in basic education.

The review forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with current national education policies as well as emerging priorities within the education sector. It is also intended to strengthen the effectiveness of teaching and learning delivery at the basic level, while ensuring that learners are better prepared to meet future academic and societal demands.

As part of the process, a joint meeting involving the Curriculum Steering Committee and the Technical Working Group was convened on March 12, 2026, at the Ministry of Education in Accra. During the meeting, a NaCCA research report was presented, capturing findings from an evaluation of the existing curriculum and highlighting both strengths and areas that require improvement to guide the revision process.

Officials explained that the engagement forms part of several planned stakeholder consultations aimed at ensuring that the review process is inclusive, systematic, and evidence-based. Continuous engagement with relevant stakeholders is expected to help refine the curriculum to reflect both national expectations and classroom realities.

The review is also expected to enhance the responsiveness of the curriculum to changing educational needs and global trends in education delivery. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening core competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills, while also ensuring that the curriculum remains grounded in the socio-cultural context through the integration of indigenous knowledge, cultural values, and national identity.
