GES Explains GTEC Verification Rule for 2026 Teacher Recruitment.
The Ghana Education Service has provided further clarification regarding certificate verification for applicants participating in the 2026 teacher recruitment exercise. This clarification addresses concerns raised shortly after the application process began.
According to an update shared on the second day of the exercise, the Service explained that only applicants who obtained their qualifications from foreign institutions are required to have their certificates authenticated by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.
Requirement for Local Graduates
Applicants who completed their studies at accredited institutions within Ghana are not required to undergo this authentication process. Instead, they are expected to submit certified true copies of their certificates. This clarification has reduced anxiety among many local graduates who initially anticipated additional procedures.
Context of GTEC’s Earlier Communication
This update follows a directive issued by GTEC on April 9, 2026, which suggested that all prospective employees under agencies supervised by the Ministry of Education should have their academic credentials evaluated.
The directive aimed to:
•Identify and eliminate fraudulent certificates
•Promote integrity within the education sector
•Ensure that only qualified individuals are recruited
However, this earlier communication created uncertainty, particularly among applicants trained locally.
Implications of the Clarification
With the latest position from GES, the requirements are now clearly defined:
•Applicants with foreign qualifications must complete certificate authentication through GTEC
•Applicants with local qualifications only need certified true copies of their certificates
•The application process proceeds without additional verification demands for most candidates
This adjustment is expected to make the process more efficient and reduce unnecessary delays.
Status of the Recruitment Exercise
The GES has confirmed that the recruitment portal remains open and will close on April 17, 2026. The exercise seeks to recruit qualified graduates to fill teaching vacancies in public basic and secondary schools.
Applicants are therefore advised to:
•Follow official instructions carefully
•Submit complete and accurate documentation
•Avoid presenting unverified or falsified certificates
•Reactions from the Education Sector

Stakeholders within the education sector have responded positively to the clarification. Many believe the decision balances the need for proper verification with a practical approach that does not overburden applicants.
While GTEC continues to pursue its mandate of maintaining standards, the position taken by GES reduces pressure on graduates from accredited institutions within the country.
Final Note
This clarification offers reassurance to many applicants. By limiting certificate authentication to foreign qualifications, the Service has simplified the process while still protecting the recruitment system from fraudulent documentation.
Applicants are encouraged to complete their applications before the stated deadline and ensure that all submitted documents meet the required standards.
