GES Orders Final Verification for Staff Whose Salaries Were Terminated After 2025 Nationwide Payroll Audit
GES Orders Final Verification for Staff Removed from Payroll After 2025 Nationwide Audit.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed Regional Directors to alert certain staff members whose salaries were previously halted during the 2025 nationwide payroll audit to prepare for a final verification exercise.
According to an official communication issued on March 12, 2026, GES indicated that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to ensure accuracy and accountability in the public sector payroll system.
The directive was signed by Smile Dzisi, Acting Deputy Director-General for Management Services. The letter referenced an earlier notice from the Ghana Audit Service dated March 5, 2026, which informed institutions that audit teams would carry out a final follow-up on staff members whose salaries were terminated during the national payroll audit but whose status has not yet been confirmed.

GES explained that the verification exercise began on March 9, 2026. The process is currently taking place across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in all sixteen regions of the country.
Regional Directors have therefore been instructed to inform the affected staff within their areas to prepare all relevant documents and remain available when officials from the Ghana Audit Service visit their institutions for the verification process.
The exercise will involve audit officers visiting schools and offices to confirm the employment status of staff whose salaries were stopped but are yet to be properly accounted for in the system.
Management of GES has described the directive as urgent and has asked Regional Directors to ensure proper coordination so that the verification exercise can be completed smoothly.
Copies of the communication were also forwarded to key officials at the GES headquarters in Accra, including the Director-General, the Acting Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access, the Director of Human Resource Management, the Chief Internal Auditor, the Acting Director of Finance, and the Head of the Payroll Unit.
For affected staff, the exercise is expected to serve as a final opportunity to confirm their employment records as part of the broader payroll audit process.
