President Mahama Hints at Additional Recruitment of Newly Trained Teachers as Financial Clearance Is Released for 16,000 Teachers to Clear Posting Backlog
His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has officially announced that financial clearance has been granted for the recruitment of at least 16,000 newly trained teachers.
This initiative is aimed at addressing the substantial backlog of trained teachers who are currently awaiting posting into the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The President made the announcement during an inspection of a newly constructed 1,500-seat assembly hall at the Peki College of Education. The visit formed part of his ongoing Resetting Ghana campaign tour of the Volta Region.
Addressing the assembled students, faculty and administrators, President Mahama explained that the recruitment exercise is intended to eliminate the prolonged waiting period that newly trained teachers often experience between completing their training and securing posting.
"Our immediate priority is to address the employment backlog affecting your senior colleagues who have completed their training but are yet to be posted. Consequently, we have granted financial clearance to the Ministry of Education to begin the recruitment of at least 16,000 newly trained teachers," the President declared.
He expressed confidence that this intervention would help ease the employment backlog facing newly qualified teachers, creating a smoother transition from training to professional deployment.
Furthermore, President Mahama used the platform to reaffirm his administration's commitment to improving infrastructure at the country's public Colleges of Education by investing in modern facilities and creating a conducive learning environment.
He noted that the government is financing the construction of student hostels and lecture halls across the country to improve teacher education.
The President concluded by assuring the leadership and students of Peki College of Education that their institution would benefit from these ongoing government infrastructure projects.
"I wish to assure you that your institution will be included in and benefit from these important infrastructure projects," he emphasized.
