COHBS Elects New National Leadership to Steer the Association Forward
The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) has ushered in a new era of governance following the successful conclusion of its 2026 National Executives Election, which brought together delegates from across Ghana to elect a new leadership team committed to advancing the association's vision, promoting quality leadership in basic schools, and safeguarding the welfare of its members.
Nicholas Nii Kpakpoe Addo was elected National President with 434 votes and will be supported by Vice President George Addai Teng, who secured 459 votes. Together, they are expected to provide strategic direction, strengthen the association's collaboration with key stakeholders, and advance initiatives that support effective leadership within Ghana's basic education sector.
The administrative affairs of the association will be overseen by General Secretary Kingsford Osei Boateng, who polled 426 votes, alongside Deputy General Secretary Omar Fuseini, who received 294 votes. Their leadership is expected to ensure the efficient implementation of the association's programmes, policies, and day-to-day operations.
In the area of financial administration, delegates elected Emelia Maku Kenney as Treasurer with 339 votes, while Rashid Alaru Fusheini emerged as Financial Secretary after obtaining the highest number of votes in the election, 501. Their election reflects the confidence members have placed in their ability to promote accountability, transparency, and prudent financial management.
Huseini Abdul-Razak Hamidu was also elected Public Relations Officer with 461 votes and is expected to strengthen the association's public image, improve communication with members, and deepen engagement with educational stakeholders and the general public.
The successful conduct of the election underscores COHBS' commitment to democratic governance, transparency, accountability, and participatory leadership. Members remain optimistic that the newly elected executives will build on the achievements of their predecessors, champion policies that enhance the professional growth and welfare of heads of basic schools, address challenges confronting school leadership, and contribute meaningfully to the continuous improvement of Ghana's basic education system.
Guided by its enduring motto, "We Mould Future Leaders," the association expressed appreciation to all delegates, contestants, the Electoral Committee, and other stakeholders whose dedication and cooperation ensured a peaceful, credible, and successful electoral process.
