Nine pregnant girls are among thousands of candidates participating in the ongoing 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across parts of the Volta Region.

In the Anloga District, six expectant girls are writing the examination together with 1,634 other candidates at eight designated centres. Authorities overseeing the exercise indicated that the examinations have commenced smoothly, with invigilators, supervisors and security personnel fully deployed to maintain order and ensure effective supervision.

The District Chief Inspector of Schools, Togbi Doda III, explained that the district registered a total of 1,640 candidates, consisting of 827 boys and 813 girls. The examination is being conducted at centres including Anlo Technical Institute, Zion College Anloga, Anlo Senior High School and other selected schools within the district.

Among the centres, Anlo Senior High School recorded the highest number of candidates, while Agortoe EP Basic registered the lowest figure.

Education officials further disclosed that 57 invigilators, eight supervisors and four assistant supervisors have been assigned to oversee activities across the examination centres.

Data from the district also showed that 320 candidates registered for the French paper, while 1,619 candidates are sitting for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) examination, reflecting strong participation in both subjects.

Togbi Doda encouraged all candidates, particularly the pregnant girls, to remain committed to their academic journey and avoid distractions during the examination period. He praised their determination and urged them to continue striving for success despite the challenges they may face.

The Ghana Education Service in the district also assured candidates of adequate support to help them write the examination under favourable conditions.

Meanwhile, reports from the Adaklu District revealed that three pregnant girls are also taking part in the BECE alongside 562 other candidates across three examination centres.

The Adaklu District Director of Education, Mr Mac-Peter Dumatonu, stated that the candidates were drawn from both public and private schools within the district.

According to him, the candidates are writing at Adaklu Senior High School and Adaklu Abuadi Junior High School Centres ‘A’ and ‘B’.

He noted that one candidate was absent at the beginning of the examination but added that no incidents had been recorded during monitoring exercises at the centres.

Mr Dumatonu advised candidates to stay focused, remain calm and conduct themselves properly throughout the examination period.
