MTN Introduces Charges on MoMo-to-Bank Transfers Effective June 2026.
MTN Ghana has officially announced a major change to its Mobile Money (MoMo) service, informing customers that transfers from MoMo wallets to bank accounts will no longer remain free of charge.
According to the new directive, which takes effect from June 1, 2026, all MoMo-to-bank transactions will attract a fee of 0.75% per transfer, with a maximum limit of GH₵5. This means that regardless of the amount being sent, customers will not pay more than GH₵5 per transaction.
The policy applies universally, including transfers made from an individual’s own MoMo wallet to their personal bank account, a service that had previously been processed without any charges.
Under the new structure, smaller transactions such as GH₵100 will incur a fee of 75 pesewas, while higher amounts—approximately GH₵667 and above—will reach the capped charge of GH₵5.
MTN explained that the introduction of this fee is part of efforts to sustain and improve the quality, efficiency, and reliability of its mobile financial services as usage continues to expand across the country.
The company further clarified that the adjustment affects only transfers from MoMo wallets to bank accounts. Other services within the MoMo ecosystem, including transfers between MoMo wallets, cash-in deposits, and cash-out withdrawals at agent points, will continue under their existing pricing arrangements without any changes.
The announcement marks a significant shift in the digital payment landscape, as customers who frequently move funds between mobile wallets and traditional banking channels will now have to factor in additional costs when making such transactions.
