Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana Calls for Reinstatement of Automatic Teacher Posting System.

The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has intensified its call for the reinstatement of the automatic posting system for newly trained teachers, warning that the current recruitment approach is failing to address the mounting unemployment among trained teachers.

At a press briefing held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the association’s national secretariat, TTAG President Nanija Devine described the recent recruitment of approximately 7,000 teachers as inadequate in relation to the scale of the challenge confronting the sector.

He indicated that a substantial number of trained teachers, estimated at over 45,000, remain without postings, despite having completed the required training. This, he noted, presents a serious structural concern within the education employment pipeline.

Mr. Devine further highlighted that more than 65,000 students are currently enrolled in Colleges of Education, raising questions about future absorption capacity if existing graduates are yet to be fully integrated into the system. He cautioned that the persistent delay in postings undermines confidence in teacher education pathways.

He argued that if the system is unable to absorb the current backlog of trained teachers, then the continued expansion of teacher training enrolment may require critical review and policy reconsideration.

The association is therefore urging education authorities to adopt a more responsive and sustainable recruitment framework that ensures timely deployment of qualified teachers into the classroom.
