Government Takes Steps to Address Salary Arrears of 2024 Teachers – Education Minister Assures.
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has indicated that steps are actively being taken to resolve the issue of unpaid salary arrears affecting teachers recruited in 2024.
This assurance came after a group of the affected teachers formally presented a petition, expressing concerns about the prolonged delays in receiving their salaries. In response, the Minister invited representatives of the group for a meeting to better appreciate their concerns and provide updates on ongoing interventions.
At the meeting, Mr Iddrisu acknowledged the difficulties the teachers are facing and commended them for remaining committed to their responsibilities. He highlighted the importance of dialogue in resolving such matters and encouraged them to continue engaging the appropriate institutions through official channels.
He further explained that the concerns raised are justified and recognised within their rights, adding that government remains mindful of their contributions to the education sector. He assured them that processes are underway to ensure all outstanding arrears are settled.
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Ernest Kofi Davis, also noted that prior engagements had been held with the teachers, during which updates were provided on efforts to address the situation. He stated that the recent meeting served as an opportunity to further brief them and reaffirm ongoing actions.
During the interaction, the teachers reiterated their concerns and appealed for faster intervention to help reduce the financial pressure many of them continue to experience.
The engagement ended with renewed assurance from the Minister that government remains committed to resolving the matter, with efforts ongoing to facilitate the payment of all outstanding arrears.
