GES recruiting of 10,000 teachers, another intake set for November — PRO
The recruitment of approximately 10,000 trained teachers across the country is currently underway, as officially announced by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
This initiative represents a significant step forward in the government's ongoing effort to strengthen public education, address staffing deficits in schools, and absorb qualified, unposted teachers into the national service. A subsequent phase of recruitment is also anticipated to begin around November later this year.
The current recruitment exercise is structured to benefit both general public education and technical-vocational institutions.
Approximately 7,000 teachers will be posted to basic and second-cycle schools under the Service, while around 3,000 quota slots are dedicated to strengthening the TVET sector. This exercise is designed to accommodate qualified graduates originating from both public and private Colleges of Education as well as accredited university education programs.
The primary goal of this national recruitment exercise is two-fold: ensuring every classroom has a qualified teacher while systematically resolving the backlog of unemployed trained teachers.
Speaking on the initiative, Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the GES, provided clarity on the numbers and the long-term vision of the Service in a statement on Tuesday, July 21, noting that there are about 10,000 teachers being recruited, with about 7,000 going into GES and about 3,000 into TVET.
He further underscored that the ultimate aim is to seamlessly fill every single classroom with teachers, recruiting all unemployed trained teachers, both backlog and current, from both the Colleges and the Universities.
To ensure a seamless registration process and protect applicants from potential fraudulent schemes, the GES advises all interested teachers to adhere to standard preparation guidelines.
Applicants should ensure that all necessary professional certifications, Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) results, and relevant clearance documents are organized and ready ahead of the portal launch.
Furthermore, information regarding portal opening dates and application procedures should be verified strictly through official GES social media pages or verified releases from the office of the GES Spokesperson.
