GES Rejects Claims of Approved Feeding Fees in Schools, Warns Against Illegal Charges.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly dismissed reports suggesting that schools have been granted approval to collect feeding fees or any other form of payment from students and parents.
In a statement issued through its official Facebook page and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Service clarified that no institution under its supervision has been authorised to impose charges under any description whatsoever. GES therefore urged the public to ignore the growing circulation of claims intended to mislead parents, students, and guardians.
According to the statement, Management has taken notice of allegations that some schools are demanding money from students under the guise of feeding fees. However, GES stressed that such actions have no approval from the Service and remain completely unlawful.
The statement further reaffirmed government’s continued commitment to sustaining and improving the Free SHS policy, insisting that the policy remains fully operational and unchanged despite rumours being spread in some quarters.
“Any school found to be charging money under the pretext of feeding fees, as alleged, is acting illegally and without the approval of Management,” the statement emphasised.
GES also cautioned that attempts to undermine the Free SHS policy through misinformation, unauthorised collections, or secret financial demands on students would not be tolerated. The Service noted that such actions constitute conduct that goes against the national interest and could attract serious sanctions.
The education authority therefore encouraged parents and students who may encounter such illegal charges to immediately report the matter through the appropriate channels for investigation and disciplinary action.
The statement serves as a fresh warning to school authorities and individuals seeking to exploit parents through unapproved fees, while reassuring the public that government remains committed to ensuring access to secondary education without unlawful financial burdens.
