GES Directs Nationwide Observance of Eid-ul-Fitr and Easter Holidays in Schools.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a comprehensive directive to all Regional Directors, instructing them to ensure the observance of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and Easter holidays in all schools across the country.
The communication forms part of efforts to maintain uniformity in the academic calendar while recognising important national and religious occasions within the educational system.
According to the official letter dated 17th March 2026, Management emphasised that Eid-ul-Fitr, scheduled for 20th and 23rd March, as well as the Easter holidays on 3rd and 6th April, are recognised statutory public holidays. Schools are therefore required to adhere to these dates, ensuring that both staff and students are given the opportunity to observe the festivities.
GES further highlighted that while the holidays are to be observed nationwide, provisions must be made for boarding students who may choose not to travel home during the period. In such cases, Heads of Schools have been granted the discretion to allow these students to remain on campus, provided that appropriate arrangements are put in place to safeguard their well-being and ensure proper supervision.
Regional Directors are therefore expected to communicate this directive to all Heads of Schools through the appropriate Metro, Municipal, and District Directors, while ensuring that the necessary measures are in place to support students who remain on campus, including accommodation, feeding, and security.
Management of GES expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all stakeholders in ensuring a smooth and effective observance of the holidays across all institutions.
